Back in January we announced that a new, larger Reception Class base will be opening in September 2023

“We have decided to more than double the floor space in a complete refurbishment of the Reception Year provision we offer four and five years olds”, said Executive Headteacher, Miss Jade Pawaar. We are very excited to be opening our brand new Reception base in time for the new September 2023 Reception intake. The new provision will enable children to better access the Reception curriculum through a mix of formal and informal learning. Our highly respected Reception provision already has the ethos and a sound track record for delivering high quality early years education, and this new provision will further enhance that. We have always believed that a good early education is the foundation for later success. As Ofsted have said in a national research report, ‘for too many children, their reception year is a missed opportunity that can leave them falling behind their peers.’ The teaching of reading should be at the heart of the curriculum. Listening to stories, poems and rhymes feeds children’s imagination, builds their vocabulary, and develops their comprehension. That’s why an enhanced and well stocked reading area will be one of the main focusses of the new unit. Likewise, practical equipment to support children’s grasp of numbers and basic arithmetic is also vital, and will also feature in the layout and plans for the new area.

Within the new Reception room will be:
• Maths area
• Literacy area
• Book Corner
• Role Play area
• Creative area
• Construction area
Building contractors will, during the summer holiday, be removing walls and laying new flooring to create the enlarged area, which will then be decorated in time for the return to school in September.
